Every night, 9-year-old Chibueze prays for one more morning.
He lives in a remote village in southeastern Nigeria, where there are no paved roads, no nearby hospital, and little access to medical care.
Since infancy, a massive benign tumor has been growing around his right eye, gradually spreading across the right side of his face. Although it isn't cancer, it continues to grow, threatening his vision, making daily life increasingly difficult, and putting him at risk of permanent disability—or worse—if left untreated.
Children in his village call him a monster. His widowed mother has already sold everything she could to seek help, but surgery remained far beyond her reach.
Then came a diagnosis that changed everything.
Doctors at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) reviewed his medical records and confirmed:
"The tumor is operable. But without surgery soon, permanent damage—or even death—is likely."
The good news?
For just $300, a child can receive the surgery that could save their life.
For Chibueze's family, that amount is impossible.
For many of us, it is less than the cost of a weekend getaway.
Chibueze Is One of 47 Children
Earlier this year, a medical outreach team visited remote villages across Ebonyi and Enugu States.
They expected to provide basic medical care.
Instead, they found 47 children living with large but treatable tumors.
Some are losing their eyesight.
Some struggle to breathe or eat.
Many have stopped going to school because of stigma and isolation.
Every child was evaluated by specialists.
The conclusion was the same:
- 47 children
- 47 operable cases
- 47 lives that can still be saved
Together, these surgeries will cost approximately $17,000—about $360 per child.
Hope Has Already Begun
Thanks to generous supporters, two children have already received life-changing surgery.
Chibueze's operation lasted nearly five hours and was successful.
Another boy, Ifeanyi, had spent years sleeping on his stomach because of the large tumor on the back of his head.
When he woke after surgery, his first question was:
"Can I finally sleep on my back?"
For the first time in years, the answer was yes.
But 45 children are still waiting.

Why These Children Are Still Waiting
Ebonyi and Enugu States, in southeastern Nigeria, are among the country's poorest and most medically underserved regions.
Many families survive on less than $2 a day, and more than 60% of rural communities have no local health clinic.
These tumors are often benign and highly treatable when detected early.
But without access to surgeons or affordable healthcare, a small lump can continue growing for years until it threatens a child's sight, breathing, or life.
A Trusted Medical Partnership
This project is carried out in partnership with the Head and Neck Surgery Team at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).
Every child receives specialist evaluation, surgery in a licensed hospital, and post-operative follow-up.
Every donation is used transparently to fund transportation, medical treatment, surgery, and recovery, and donors receive updates showing the impact of their generosity.
Be the Reason a Child Gets a Second Chance
The doctors are ready.
